“Everyone is kind of suspicious . . . But I’ve always dressed like this.”

“[Di Grado] wears black lipstick, a sorceress hood and fingerless lace gloves. Recently, she said, she strung naked baby dolls into a necklace,” says the NYT.

Viola Di Grado is by all accounts a rising literary star.  Her debut novel, “70% Acrylic, 30% Wool,” was a  winner of the 2011 Campiello First Novel Award and a finalist for Italy’s most prestigious literary prize, The Strega.

I’m not going to lie; it was her style that first made me take note of her.  But  now I want to buy her book too.   “70% Acrylic, 30% Wool” is set in Leeds.  The main character is going crazy — her father was killed in an auto wreck and her mother has become mute.  Sounds like a perfect read for the holidays.

  1. Where does one shop to dress like that? The Demented Hello Kitty store?

  2. Good find. I am going to ask for this one at my local library.

  3. She’s dressed in a way reminiscent of a teenage anime fan… I thought this was a satire or parody at first… the cat ears are a dead giveaway. If you look up “anime otaku” or “weeaboo” and “cat girl” or “nekomimi” you’ll get a better idea.
