Wearing black makes you cooler (and more so in the summertime)

Or at least that is what basic principles of physics tell us.  I09 explains:

The best color to keep cool in the heat, it turns out, is to wear black. Black absorbs everything coming in from the sun, sure. But black also absorbs energy from the body instead of reflecting it back. Now, the helpfulness of black clothes depends on finding black clothes that are the same thickness and looseness as those summery white clothes. Black clothing also needs a little help from atmospheric conditions. Once it has absorbed heat, it has to have some way to radiate it away. If there’s even a little wind, black clothing is the better choice for those who want to keep cool, like goths who understandably don’t like sweating through their make-up. So find something black to wear this summer.

I know what you are thinking, “But, what about white clothing; isn’t that supposed to be the coolest?”

No way man.  White reflects heat.  That means all that heat that is coming from your hot sweaty body gets reflected right back at your body if you are wearing white clothing.

This is good news for goths everywhere.  Plus, it destroys the premise of “Goths in Hot Weather.”

  2. I am not sure I buy the science of this article. I had not heard that Mission song in a long time.

  3. I thought burkas were dark colors because the other colors are “see through” or something and that is unbecoming, considering the burka is to cover and keep women modest.

  4. In theory I would love to ascribe, but in fact, don’t think it is true; however, there are many wonderful fabrics that are black and lightweight that could rival any heavier weight cotton, which is why I have included those garment in my wardrobe.

  5. The Fremen already know this! 🙂
