Newsprint Nails

These nails are hot off the presses.

Somewhat difficult to get used to the white nails, but cool effect.

Here’s how to do it.

1.   Get some newspapers;

2.   cut into strips;

3.   dip finger in alcohol, preferably absinthe (you can actually use any alcohol);

4.   press strip onto nail;

5.   pull off slowly;

6.  oooh and ahh;

7.  repeat steps 3-6;

8.  apply top coat so the print doesn’t smudge; and

9.  make yourself a Death in the Afternoon.

  1. Cool effect. Your nails look great.

  2. I love it, actually! It’s really pretty on your nails.

  3. They turned out great! Now to find some black text with white writing so you can try the opposite. 😉

  4. This is a variation (a nail-ification!) of a simple printmaking technique called Xerox Transfer Printing that I teach to my freshman drawing class! I’m betting that tiny DIY nail decals can be made very easily that will also transfer (create the decals on Photoshop, reverse them so that they’re a mirror image, print out on paper, xerox – yes, you have to do this step, then continue as you described). Anyway, I would be happy to make you some and send them your way to test this theory!

  5. On My Twitter Feed…

    Next, I looked at my personal feed and found somebody posting one of the links to this particular blog…
