Yohji Yamamoto Goes to China

Autumn 2010 Ready to Wear

Yohji Yamamoto is one of the most influential fashion designers working today.  Mr. Yamamoto made his debut in Paris in 1981.

In October 2009, Mr. Yamamoto filed for bankruptcy.  And in January, he began closing stores all around the world.  Mr. Yamamoto even closed his flagship store in Paris.  Things looked bleak.

But Mr. Yamamoto’s fortunes seem to be improving.  He is getting an infusion of cash from an investment fund to help him restructure.  And in the next few years, he will be opening a flagship store in China.

The Independent reports,

The iconic designer, famous for his black minimalist creations. . . plans to open new shops for his eponymous label in China, although he did not set a specific date.

Mr. Yamamoto’s move to China could be motivated by a desire to distance himself from his creditors.  No matter, it is great to see that his financial problems won’t stop him from designing.

Siouxsie predicts that Mr. Yamamoto will soon be the toast of China and that all of China will be going goth.  Bwahaha.
