RIP Zelda Kaplan
Zelda Kaplan, 95, died today while sitting in the front row as a fashion show at New York Fashion Week was about to begin.
Kaplan was known for her originality, her philanthropy, and her night-owl club-kid tendencies.
“I think one of the things that keeps me healthy is that I’m not introspective at all … The secret is being interested in things outside of oneself.” [NYM]
“I hate to wear what everybody else is wearing [...] I don’t think people should be happy to be a clone.” [NY Post]
”I want to be an example for young people so they aren’t afraid of growing old and a lesson to old people that you can be productive. You don’t have to sit around and wait for death.” [NYT]

Oh my goodness! Well, that’s probably the best place for her to go….. alongside the fashion that she loved.
What an inspirational character!
I can only hope that some day, I go like Zelda: doing something I love, without suffering, after a long and full life.
My cousin Zelda has been my muse most of my life. She benefited everyone by being sincere, happy and stimulating people to reject oppression, and improve their lives. Her memory inspires joy and zest, with the courage to explore, create and engage life – day, night, anyplace, with almost anyone, at every age.
