Death in the Afternoon
Most people know Hemingway’s book on bullfighting, “Death in the Afternoon.” But few realize that Hemingway also created a cocktail with the same name. The recipe first appeared in the cocktail guide titled “So Red The Nose” — a book containing a collection of drink recipes submitted by leading authors from the early 20th century.
Here is the complete recipe for Death in the Afternoon:
Pour 1 jigger of absinthe into a champagne glass. Add iced champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness. Drink three to five of these slowly.*
Translation: Use 1 1/2 ounces absinthe and 4 ounces Brut champagne. Siouxsie recommends Kübler Absinthe Superieure.
*WARNING — Do NOT drink five of these in one sitting.

ooh. yum.
Indeed. One of my favorite restaurants has it on their brunch menu.
This combo works well together. Good drink. Bad book.
I don’t know; the book looks pretty bad-ass.
